Spanish History

Spain built an Empire in the Spanish Netherlands and in the New World. Christopher Columbus claimed all territories he visited for Spain, calling all peoples he encountered ‘Indians’, he believed he was on the coast of Asia. Spain used Native Americans to mine for Gold and as labor in Sugar Plantations which had been initially successfully established in the Canary Islands.

Spain established trade routes and navigated the world particularly Ferdinand Magellan. Spanish Armies came to the aid of Ireland culminating in the Spanish Armada clash with England in 1588.
